Day 2. Negombo

A good night's sleep has gone a long way to getting over our jet lag... but we'll see, sometimes the first night is okay and then it catches up to you. It seems we're in a large hotel that caters to lots of westerners starting their Sri Lanka tour, at least based on the people circulating at breakfast. After having something to eat we retreated to our room and re-packed and organised after the flight, so we're a bit more sorted out for the coming days.  I'll just finish that first day - my prediction about being too tired last night was correct, as we got to the hotel about 12.30am (about 5.30am Adelaide time). Essentially, we hung around Changi for a couple more hours, during which time we found a sunflower garden and I mildly sprained my ankle on a small trampoline. This is not a good idea Eventually we boarded the final flight. This was a bit over three hours; Lynn slept almost the whole time, while I insisted on a final unnecessary meal before my nap. The Colombo airport was cool, green and pleasant. The whole place has a like-India-but-less-crowded feel. We were collected for our transfer and then half an hour in a minivan to the hotel. We often seem to arrive in new places at night, and it's disorienting, the more so as the driver took a number of short cuts down narrow suburban streets. Our hotel seems to be a short distance north of the airport and Comombo, on the west coast of the pear-shaped island.
